A P H R O B Y T E

Aphrobyte is based on the Greek goddess of beauty, aesthetic and love, Aphrodite.

For the entrance exam in Expanded Realities I made that 2D traditional Illustration of her and told the professors that I one day want to make her in 3D in VR. Based on  an utopian idea I had of a VR world which is ruled by Cyborg (AIs) Greek gods which are created by humans for a new innovative political ruling system. Ironically fantasy and spirituality would have been the foundation for that technological system.

Thus I thought it's quite fitting to the idea of Posthuman. Maybe the time when we reach beyond being human is when we don’t see spirituality and science as two parts of a different world but a yin and yang of one. But everyone can decide on their own what it means to them, that's what was my main thought always.

It could also be that time plays a big role in being human, the past makes us posthuman, due to the fact that we experienced therefore gained wisdom leading us to being beyond being human.

We are the species which can travel through time with the power of our minds. By remembering.

I approached making her by staying true to my art style and just went with the flow.

First however I made a quick prototype in unity with a scene to understand my sketch in 3D and how I would want it to look in the ideal way.

I took a screenshot of it and drew over the iconic wires around her. I wanted them to be tangled like Quantum Entanglement :D

It should create a feeling of beauty in completely abstract ways or beauty of science.

Later when I got to work in VR with Gravity Sketch it was super challenging I couldn't

mold her appearance as it was in my sketches which made me super frustrated.

But instead of aiming for an ideal, I started using that to my advantage and just made her in the most abstract way possible but still staying loyal to my wires.

The one million polygons were a downside of it though.

If I had more time I  would have animated the wired to move and include ambience light. Make people go inside and see flowers connected to wired and electronic hearts. Maybe also more gods and also define her hips more. I would have really wanted to do a lot of things here. But it's okay I will work on it also on my own. Maybe model her on a PC and put her in VR again. I would love to make that Greek Gods VR utopia happen one day.

Edit: Since I have worked in Quill by Smoothstep, while creating my Bachlor Project thus gaining more skills in VR drawing, I think this would look so cool upodated and recreated with Quill. Will definetly  work on Aphrobyte in the future!
